Unlike the previous Mac|Life special cover story I blogged about a couple days back, I wrote and planned this one entirely on my own — and it’s massive. My editor hit me with the basic story concept and how many pages he was looking to cover and asked me to plan it out and execute the text. And so I did, creating “iPhone at Home,” a story that covers a large number of apps for iPhone and iPad that can help you or enhance your living experience throughout the myriad rooms of your dwelling.

It’s found from pages 8-38 — yes, 31 pages, only six of which are advertisements. It was a serious undertaking, but I’m happy with how it turned out on the printed page. The feature covers reasonable ways to use your iPhone or iPad in the living room, kitchen, bathroom, garage, and office, as well as basic upkeep and maintenance inside and outside your home. Each section includes individual app write-ups with screenshots and descriptions, as well as one or more large sidebars that cover multiple apps that serve similar purposes or complement each other.

This issue is currently still on newsstands and should remain as such into May, so pick it up and give it a look if you stumble upon it in the coming weeks. Sadly, this looks like it will be my last Mac|Life special issue cover story for the foreseeable future, as budget changes have axed the freelance portion of these particular endeavors. But it was great while it lasted, plus I’m still doing regular work for Mac|Life and the website — and maybe I’ll have more opportunities with the special issues as the budget morphs and evolves in the months and years ahead.
